Spanning 11 metres, the lightweight, hovering roof, held onto existing structures, floats above a long stainless steel table that anchors it to the ground.

For the AA Projects Review 2025, Archipelago, the library terrace has been transformed into an island of shifting landscapes, showcasing student work focused on the Outer Hebrides archipelago in Scotland, UK.

The hand-sewn roof, assembled and tested in two weeks, offers both shelter from rain and shade for the exhibited work. It invites interaction, compelling visitors to lower themselves and become more intimate with the roof and the work.

From the AA terrace, where the structure is first seen, the view opens like a smile, shaped by the structure’s gentle curve.
